The Paris international Film School is a college offering students worldwide the opportunity of specializing in film studies in a professional environment where the quality of personal films is pursued to the out most and where students are given the opportunity of developing their creative and technical knowledge through the practical creation of scripts to the manipulation of sophisticated professional equipment and on to the post production and screening of their films in front of a public and a panel of judges.

The main feature at our school is that it gathers virtually all media crafts within one training location therefore encouraging students to learn how to work together, just like in the film industry! Young film directors work closely with technical trainees and aspiring actors, which is as close to the real thing you can get as a student.

If your ambition is to train in television or film making, you will learn how to screen write, to story board, to direct actors, to shoot and sound record, to edit and mix... and you'll direct several short films in digital, 16 mm and 35 mm.

On the more individual basis the interaction between professor and student at EICAR is encouraged. The practical courses are conducted in small groups enabling the students to improve their communication skills and the art of management, two fundamental attributes required in order to create and sustain a team throughout the shooting of a film.

We at EICAR presently offer four programs taught completely in English. Our three year Film Directing European Bachelor of Fine Arts, one year non-degree Film Directing Masters Track program, two year Film Directing and Audio visual Production European Masters of Fine Arts, and our summer directing program in Cherbourg.

EICAR is a school that is growing and changing. In order to educate our young artists we must remain at the cutting edge of the various fields we teach. We along with our students are constantly pushing the boundaries of what can be done in the dramatic arts, while still employing several basic time tested fundamentals that we have and still stress.

All of our courses are taught by professional filmmakers, actors, and technicians and are designed to address the very specific fields that we teach. EICAR very strongly believes that the greatest lessons that young filmmakers, actors and technicians can learn are those taught to them while actually practising the craft that they have set out to study. Therefore, our classes at first look at the theory students will be required to understand to best enable them to successfully complete their project, followed by the practical work of making their films.

Besides offering our students a very well rounded, solid education in the audio visual arts, our Anglophone students are immersed in a very rich and diverse International setting. EICAR is a school that boasts of having over 20 nationalities. Students from all over the world come to the school working in both French and English. This is not only a major asset for the school but for our students as well. They are able to learn about the world and people around them. Our global environment enriches the creative process of everyone here at the school and brings the work of every individual student to a new, higher level.

For more than three decades our Paris campus has functioned as a centre for the dramatic and visual arts. With six sites throughout Paris students are taught in our sprawling studios, and fully equipped classrooms. EICAR-Paris provides students the exceptional opportunity to profit from EICAR’s long, successful tradition of teaching in the magical setting of France’s capital. Paris is a city where the arts are not only part of the scenery but also alive. Although we do not provide housing here in Paris, we are prepared and have a long history of aiding our foreign students in the process of locating a place to live. We literally are ready to address every concern a student coming from abroad may have.

Finally EICAR is at a turning point unlike any other in our three-decade history. We are very proud to announce the opening of our Cherbourg campus along the coast of the English Channel "La Manche" in the historic northern French region of Normandy.

EICAR-Cherbourg presents a unique opportunity for all of us here at the school being that it is the first film school in Europe to include a campus and housing. EICAR-Cherbourg’s campus is exclusively housed in the exceptional surroundings of the region’s 19th century military hospital Rene Lebas. This incredible location (35,000.00 m2 or 376,737.00 ft2) has been completely renovated to serve as the state of the art home of EICAR in northern France.

Nowhere else in the world will students find a campus quite like EICAR-Cherbourg. What separates EICAR-Cherbourg from other film schools throughout the world is not only its size, fully equipped studios or cutting-edge technology but its inexpensive opportunity to live in student housing. Every student who desires to live on campus is more than welcomed, finding our newly renovated individual studios an excellent choice. Studios are complete with a small bathroom (including shower and toilet) kitchenette outfitted with a microwave, small refrigerator, TV and cable internet. EICAR-Cherbourg also provides student’s access to common rooms, game room, TV room, library, playing fields and fitness room.

EICAR-Cherbourg will not only function as school but as a professional studio where film and television productions will be produced. The school’s facilities will also be employed to stream internet radio and television. Lastly, the magnificent grounds of Rene Lebas will play host to an international film festival that EICAR is planning to establish. DEGREE QUALIFICATION

The three year degree programme in film directing and audio visual studies at EICAR is accredited as a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts). EICAR also offers now an MFA degree (Master of Fine Arts) in two years. Both these degree courses are accredited by the European Accreditation Board of Higher Education Schools (EABHES). These degrees are recognised in Europe, USA and Canada.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

When submitting an application from to EICAR from abroad we ask candidates to write a letter of motivation of approximately 2000 words and at the same time send us any example of a personal film. In the absence of a film, any photographic work, painting, illustrational literary work will be accepted instead.

We do not provide on campus accommodation for students in Paris, none the less the staff are there to help students find lodgings and deal with any problems that may arise during their stay. However, in our new College, in Cherbourg, on campus accommodation is provided.

The directing programme at EICAR is a full time course for motivated students committed to high standards of excellence.
The programme is a fully accredited Bachelor or Masters degree course in Fine Arts and is conducted either in English or in French according to your choice. Tutors are multiracial professionals and represent the fast growing international student population here. The entry examination is competitive and only those who have obtained a high school diploma or the equivalent may apply.
